Telstra has finally released it's long awaited Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the Palm Treo 750. More details can be found here.
Not sure if I'll upgrade to their version or just keep using the version I installed via this method.

There has been quite a lot of discussion on the SQL Server Compact Edition MSDN Forum since SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 was released and most of it has been around it's compatibility (or lack of) with SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008. The good news is that the SQL Server Compact Team have released a great post on their blog about "Connectivity cross version compatibility scenarios for the SQL Server Compact 3.5 release" which should help alleviate some of the misconceptions about the product.
Summary:
Some of you may have notice that they talk about SP1 versions of SQL Server Compact 3.5 and SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Tools. Here is a release plan for these packages (no dates provided):
The original post also provides a fair bit of detail on various Deployment Scenarios for SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 and SQL Server Compact Edition 2.0/3.0/3.1/3.5 . It doesn't however cover any of the following deployment scenarios:
For more information about these deployment scenarios, please see SQL Server Compact 3.1 Connectivity Tools documentation.
Cross Version Compatibility Support Matrix
The following tables provides the cross version compatibility support for each different type of deployment scenario. The table includes:
The following table summarizes the compatibility with SQL Server Compact, SQL Server and server IIS components. For more information, see Section 2 Deployment Scenarios. This section requires thorough understanding of Merge Replication deployment.
The full post can be found here.

Greg Low has finally blogged about leaving Readify so I guess this now means it's ok for me to blog about it too :-)
Greg has decided to leave Readify and immerse himself even deeper into SQL Server and surrounding technologies (don't know how that's possible, but I do know it's going to mean great things for the Australian SQL Server Community!).
Greg's old friend and fellow RD Fernando Guerrero (Barcelona) contacted him and asked if he would be interested in setting up a new Australian operation for Solid Quality (http://www.solidq.com/). Well, Greg said yes and will be partnering up with Peter Myers (another SQL Server guru and mentor) to run Solid Q Australia Pty Ltd. What a team!
You can read more about Greg's decision here.

Trika has kindly provided an explanation on her blog as to why the SQL Server 2008 and Your Microsoft Certifications MCP live meeting was rescheduled once again (Brave girl to have taken some of the blame!). All is not lost though as Trika also provides a link to Gerry's recent blog post on SQL Server 2008 and Certifications.
Summary of SQL Serve 2008 Certifications
The design session for 70-432 apparently took place between 12th to 14th December 2008 so this obviously means that the study guide and exam format is still not finalised. Gerry does however point out that this shouldn't stop people studying for the exam and provides the following tips for those wishing to prepare for it's eventual release:
You can also do the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Virtual Labs outlined in my earlier post.
No other information was provided about exam 70-448.

Just found out about another benefit of winning Speaker Idol; automatically becoming a member of the INETA APAC Speakers Bureau.
The INETA APAC Speaker Bureau provides user group leaders top notch speakers for their key events. The speakers are provided at no cost to the user group.
If you want to request a speaker for your user group meeting, login to INETA, choose Resources -> Speaker Bureau page and Select Request Speaker. Alternatively if you have a query post a request on the Support Forum (Note: These options are only viewable by user group leaders).

On December 7, technical communities around the world will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual train-the-trainer and launch execution program consistent with the 08 Launch Wave of Windows Server 2008™, Visual Studio 2008™, and SQL Server 2008™.
The Heroes {Community} Launch is an exclusive opportunity to work directly with Microsoft to host your own launch event around Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2008 Microsoft products. The program provides participants with the technical training and launch support resources to showcase some of the technical features of these products within their local community.
As a member of INETA, Culminis and the president of the Canberra SQL Server User Group, I have been invited to enroll as a Heroes {Community} Launch Leader.
So what's the value of being a Heroes {Community} Launch Leader?
Well, I:
Can anyone be a Heroes {Community} Launch Leader? Yes and No.
Firstly; you must be invited to participate. Call for action has so far been sent by MS Global Field, INETA, Culminis, SQL PASS, MSDN/TechNet, CPLS, Microsoft Student Partners (MSP) and User Group Support Services (MS UGSS ). As a User Group Leader I can also nominate two other people to participate. Secondly; once you have registered, Microsoft will coordinate with their regional subsidiaries and INETA to confirm your eligibility to receive a launch kit consistent with the program guidelines.
So, did I choose anyone to help me out? Sure did.
I chose Shaun Baggett who is a regular attendee of the Canberra SQL Server User Group, SQL Down Under Code Camp, CodeCampOz and Canberra .NET User Group, and Catherine Eibner who also attends these events, has presented sessions for both the Brisbane and Canberra SQL Server User Groups and was one of the sponsors of the inaugural Influencers Party at TechEd Australian 2007. They are also people that I know quite well and who I believe will help make this the best ever SQL Server launch for our community.

Want to learn more about SQL Server 2008? Check out these Virtual Labs
What's new in SQL Server 2008 for Database Administrators
In this lab you will be introduced to some of the new features for database administrators in SQL Server 2008. You will work with the new date data type, implement a Declarative Management Framework (DMF) policy and look at new features added to database mirroring. You will also implement and work with table valued parameters and look at database changes using change data capture (CDC).
Implementing Change Data Capture (CDC) in SQL Server 2008
Change data capture (CDC) is designed to capture insert, update, and delete activity applied to SQL Server tables, and to make the details of the changes available in an easily consumed relational format. The change tables used by CDC contain columns that mirror the column structure of a tracked source table, along with the metadata needed to understand the changes that have occurred. In this lab you will perform the necessary steps to enable data capture in a database.Learn How to Build Occasionally Connected Applications with SQL Server 2008

Today the second part of my Speaker Idol prize arrived; my MS Press books. The first part was a trophy (pictured with the books) and the last part is a speaker ticket for TechEd-Developers 2008 which is being held in Barcelona.
I got 22 books all up. Some of which I'll be keeping for myself; others I'll give away as prizes at the Canberra SQL Server User Group.
So what books did I choose? Here's a list:
Books I'm Keeping
Books for Prizes
Once again, big thanks to all the Speaker Idol Organisers, Compères, Judges and MS Press.
Cheers
Jeff
